2nd Annual Burn Fund Cycle Tour

June 26-27 2010: Five Prince George Fire Fighters, one civilian member and support staff donated their off-duty time to help this cause.  Through hosting a variety of events such as BBQ’s and car washes, the group managed to raise funds in excess of $7000.00 for the Burn Fund.  A final tally should be ready next week as some funds are still trickling in.  The group would like to thank their major sponsors; Scotiabank, Superstore, Invis Mortgage consultants, Ron Davis of Doucette Realty, and M&M Meat shop.  Also a huge thank you to Local 1372 Fire Fighters who donated time and efforts at all our events, as well as the public support we received in our fundraising efforts.

This year, a civilian member, Neil Henderson, joined us.  Neil raised close to $1500.00 while training in preparation for the 274 km round trip cycle.  We look forward to more community involvement in the years to come.

Fire Fighters Kelly Henderson, Paul Knudsgaard, Denver McCullough, Aaron Brouwer and Jared Steiger completed the approximately 274km round trip ride.  Over two days, the total riding time was approximately 11.5 hours.  The group was able to maintain an average cycling speed of 22-25 km/h.  For the most part the weather cooperated until the last 10 km when the rain hit.  The group was pretty tired but in good spirits when they arrived at the #1 Fire Hall at 4:30 pm on Sunday afternoon.

Burn Fund Car Wash

June 12 2010: Despite having much better weather during this year’s car wash we were not as busy as we were in previous years.  We were able to raise over $700 for the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.  I want to thank all those members who volunteered their time off-shift to help make this event a success and I also want to thank the Hall 2 A shift members for helping out today as well.

Looking forward to next year where we can hopefully get back over the $1000 mark again.

Firefighters have hottest chili of the day

June 8 2010 (Prince George Free Press): Saturday, June 5 was the Community Art Council’s annual Spring Arts Bazaar and Chili Cook-Off. The Spring Arts Bazaar is always a highlight for the CAC and this year was no exception. With cooperative weather, live bands, art auction, a great-looking art market, face painting and, of course, the chili cook-off the day was marked as a great success.

The winners for this year’s Chili Cook Off are:

The Prince George ,Firefighters “Fire In The Hole”

The Prince George Potters Guild “Red Hot Chili Potters”

Team Bond and Bell “The ‘Spice Cabinet’”

Burn Fund Golf BBQ @ Superstore

June 5 2010: The BBQ at Super store today was a success and we raised $584 dollars for the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund! Thanks to Superstore who generously gave us $200 towards our groceries and the 200 hotdogs we sold! Thanks to Sean Coyle, Trent Blair, and Dave Zapotichny, for coming out and helping us riders raise money for the Burn Fund!

Burn Fund Golf Tournament Success

June 4 2010: Here is an update on the golf tournament that was held June 4, 2010 at the PG Golf and Curling Club. Special thanks to  everybody that helped out and to Kip Skaar, Norm Macleod, and Rob Trevelyan for all the work organizing the event and making it run smoothly. As well thanks to Cam Morris, Weston Stevens, Ken Foisy, Wayne Weis, Brandy Dancy, Chris Rowland, Mark Monahan, and Dave Zapotichny for hole watching.

The day went smoothly, with all golfers having a great time. We had a lot of positive feedback. We ended up having 36 golfers and raised approximately $1,500 for the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.

The Burn Fund provides life saving, life supporting, and life enriching services to the people in British Columbia. More than 3,700 professional fire fighters in BC dedicate and donate their time and skills to support burn survivors and increase the public's knowledge about fire and burn safety issues through the work the Burn Fund does with its Burn Awareness, Research and Prevention Programs.
